Ave!
Ring, Roman, Men's, Enigmatic Inscription, 5th-9th Cent
Pure Silver; 6.0gm, Ring Size 8
Con/ Professionally restored to "as new" condition.
Seller's Note/ This is a very curious ring, indeed. The shape with raised bezel is late Roman-early Byzantine. The inscription is in three tiers divided by two lines; the transverse line is an ancient scratch. Our best guess is that this ring was cast by the jeweler with the bezel plain and unadorned and that the crude inscription was added at a later date. The letters appear to be a strange combination of Latin and Greek?
Who wore this ring and the meaning of the legend is moot. A Roman soldier? Maybe. A magician? Could be. We'll never know but it is certainly unique!
