Ring, Crusader-era, Pilgrims, Tau Cross, c. 11th-13th Cent.

Ave!

Ring, Crusader-era, Pilgrims, Tau Cross, c. 11th-13th Cent.

Iron alloy, Silver plated, Ring size 12 1/2

Con/ Sound and wearable, much of the silver plating intact.

Description/ Cast as one piece, engraved with a Tau-shaped cross and then silver plated. During the time of the Crusades, the tau cross was used as a symbol for life or resurrection.

Seller's Note/ Such rings were mass produced in the Holy Land and sold as souvenirs at religious shrines and other sites to pilgrims and crusader knights as well. As our ring was found in the Balkans, the lucky knight or pilgrim returned safely home, and perhaps presented it to the girl he left behind. Very rare in this condition as most such type rings were fabricated from copper alloy rather than iron, such as ours.
