Ave!

Cloak Fastener, Medieval, c. 15th-16th Cent

Copper alloy; 67mm/24.9gm

Con/ As fabricated; original patina, cleaned but not waxed.

Seller's Note/ Despite the fact that it looks a bit like an ancient toilet paper holder, this artifact was used to fasten cloaks and clothing via small loops that would have been attached to either end. No wonder it got lost in the ground. Bad engineering, you know? The Romans would have never made such a poor design. Even so, this fastener is rather rare and we have only presented a few here on NRC.
