Lovely Lady, Statuette fragment, Early 2nd Century AD
Copper alloy; 22mm/22.3gm
Description/ Solid bronze (not hallow) female head, diademed with hair waved and parted behind, rising into a crest near the top of the diadem, and knotted in queue falling down her neck. Her eyes appear to have had glass or gem inserts.
But whom or what does this elegant head represent? A goddess? A personification? Perhaps even an emperor's wife, such as Sabina? Sadly, we will never know as the rest of the statues body is clearly missing.
Con/ A few typical nicks and dings, but you'd be dinged up too after nearly 2,000 years in the ground!
