Antoninus Pius, Æ Sestertius, Romulus Reverse

Æ 33mm/21.1gm    Stuck c.140-144 AD

Con/ Some surface porosity, otherwise, Very Fine; well-centered on each side with very sharp strikes and clear legends; warm brown patina.

OBV/ ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP TR P COS III; laureate head right

Rev/ ROMVLO AVGVSTO S-C; Romulus, in military outfit, walking right, holding spear in right hand and trophy over left shoulder

Ref/ RIC Vol III, 624 (sort of)

Seller's Note/ This is a very rare coin, folks, but as seen in our photo, where is the reverse ROMVLO AVGVSTO legend? The reverse is sharply struck (Yes or No?) but there is seemingly no legend at all, and such does NOT just disappear, you know? If you go to RIC Vol III, page 111, you'll find a number of issues with no legends. Perhaps the authors somehow missed this issue?

Either way, such ROMVLO AVGVSTO reverse issues have sold in the past for $2000 or more. Our price of only $295 is an excellent price as we are not greedy.
