Mystery Artifact with Face, ca. 1st-3rd Cent

Copper alloy; 21mm x 17mm/10.8gm

Con/ ???; cleaned and waxed

Description/ Grimacing face (a gorgonian; Medusa, perhaps, or the smith's mother-in-law?) on a rondel, two connector loops behind

Seller's Note/ So what is this peculiar object? We have no clue. It it certainly provincial-made, going by the very crudely engraved face, possibly from a legionary forge? It could be a belt or strap stud, or a strap slide? Some have even suggested that it was affixed to the top of a small wooden security box! Your guess is as good as ours. A wonderful addition to your Cabinet of Curiosities!
