Description/ Eight-rayed sunburst symbol; the reverse is flat and unadorned.
Seller's Note/ Early representations of this symbol go back to at least the 6th century BC, with Hoplites depicted as bearing sixteen-pointed and eight-pointed sunburst symbols on their shields and armor and the same symbols being represented on coins from both island, mainland Greece and Greek Black Sea colonies from at least the 5th century BC.
Ground-found in the Crimean peninsula, near the environs of the ancient Greek colony of Chersonesos. Very, very rare!
