Cuneiform Tablet, Sumeria, Third Dynasty of Ur, Gold Refining Report
Clay; 51mm/38.5gm Ca. 2112-2004 BC
Con/ A very sharp example with inscriptions on both sides
Provenance & Attribution/ Dr. David MacDonald, University of Illinois, acquired in the early 1970's
Seller's Note/ Always scarce, such cuneiform tablets from ancient Sumeria, Mesopotamia, are now becoming more difficult to find, especially with such irrefutable provenance. Translated by the resident cuneiformist at the University of Minnesota in the late 1960s.
Quote from Dr. MacDonald - "I got this one shortly after the cuneiformist moved to the University of Pennsylvania. He read it again--basically it is a record, so much placer concentrate received, so much expended for fuel to refine it, so much purified gold remaining."
Such reports, unlike delivery receipts, are very, very rare, especially in such outstanding condition.
