Ave!

Avar, Belt Mount, Gold-gilt, c. 6th-7th Cent AD Rare!

Copper alloy; 21mm/5.0gm

Con/ As Cast: Rare with nearly 100% of original gold gilt in place!

Description/ As seen in the photo; two ropes twisting in a sinuous shape?

Seller's Note/ The Avars loved their bling and this is no exception. Such belt mounts were set into to the back of their belts to flash. Strap ends were also affixed to the back of their belts as to dangle and flash, making a jingling sound as they rode along.

Imagine the jolly and jingling Avars sweeping into your town or village...and burning it to the ground.
