Ave!

Ring, Medieval, Men's, Virgin & Child intaglio, ca. 15th-16th Cent

Copper alloy; 3.2gm, Ring size 10 1/4)

Con/ Some minor wear, otherwise, as Cast and Engraved; bright brown patina, sound and wearable

Description/ Cast as one piece then engraved, this amazingly rare ring features the Crowned Madonna seated with the Christ Child resting on her lap

Seller's Note/ Through out the 15th-16th Cent, such Madonna and Child motifs were replicated by the Hungarian Arpad dynasty on their coinage, as the Virgin Mary was their patron saint.

As seen in the wax impression, this ring was certainly used as a signet to seal not only documents, but also impressed into wax, on other written documents below the the owners signature for proof of authentication.

Rings were made to be worn, not tucked away. The longer this ring is worn the better it will look!
