Ave!

Faustina Senior, Sestertius, Ceres Reverse? Rare?

Orichalcum; 33mm/25.8gm  - Lifetime issue, struck ca. 138-141 AD, Rome Mint

Con/ about Good Fine; dark brown patina

Obv/ FAVSTINA AVG ANTONINI AVG PP; draped bust r., with hair done in elegant waves

Rev/ [CERES AVG?] S-C; Ceres seated left, holding corn ears and long torch

Ref/ RIC Vol III 1085 (dupondius)

Seller's Note/ Oh my goodness, what a very curious coin! A sharp and clear legend on the obverse but not a trace of a legend on the reverse, although the S-C and figure of Ceres is quite clear. RIC lists this reverse as a dupondius and not a sestertius. A mistake on their part? Rare and unlisted?
