Pierced Roman Coins, 11-Pack, Look!

Æ Early Roman - LRBC

Con/ Sound but not cleaned

Seller's Note/ Nothing wrong with holed coins as they have a personality of their own, rather than just monetary use in the past. Who pierced these coins so many centuries ago...and why? One theory is that the centrally pierced ones were nailed above or on door posts to show the owners loyalty to the current emperor. Others were worn as pendents such as seen in the photo. The coin pierced three times was most likely attached to a soldiers belt or strap as an adornment of some sort. The holes were made by either a square tipped awl or a round tipped awl.
