Ave!

Gallienus Zoo, Stag and Centaur, 2-Pack!

Æ Antoninianus; each at ca. 19mm/2.3gm

Con/ After cleaning and dependent upon your skills; about Very Fine

Each of these coins features their own patron deity:

Stag reverse - Stag standing left; DIANA CONS AVG; Diana

Centaur reverse - Centaur standing right, drawing bow and arrow; APPOLINI CONS AVG; Apollo

Seller's Note/ Just in case you wonder about the CONS on the reverses, CONS is a contraction of CONSERVATOR = Protector, as Gallienus was so beset with enemies, he was even calling on the Gods for aid!

The Centaur is especially sharp, and is certainly the Roman image of Chiron, himself, the famous centaur who was known to have trained Heroes such as Achilles, Jason, Hercules and  Asclepius, the Greek God of Medicine. In fact, Asclepius would later die because of his hubris: he had become such a skilled medic he could resurrect the dead, and Zeus would end up killing him for this.  Yikes, folks, please avoid hubris at all costs!

Use care while cleaning these issues. Once done an application of wax will darken their patinas to further joy! These two coins will make an excellent addition your growing Gallienus Zoo collection. Have fun!
