Ave!

Hair Pin, Roman, Childs?, c. 2nd-3rd Cent

Copper alloy; 110mm/5.5gm.

Con/ As Cast; brown patina with brassy high-lights

Seller's Note/ Roman ladies tended to wear pins with lovely designs such as birds or hands holding a pearl on the terminal; ours features a simple finial adorned with an onion shape. The reason we believe this may a have been used by a child is two fold. The length is a bit too short for an adult Roman lady and, due to the simplicity, it must have been rather inexpensive back in the day. Just our conjectures, anyway.

We see lots of these on eBay, advertised as 'voting sticks' at exorbitant high prices. They are NOT voting sticks but rather simple hair pins.

Our prices for these charming, decorative and collectible hair pins is just right.
