Elgin Gold Pocket Watch, 1882, Runs Like New! has been added to your Cart

Ave!

Belt Mount, Propellor-type, ca. 4th Cent. AD, OMG! Look!

Copper alloy; 63mm x 4mm/18.5gm!

Con/ One central flower (?) missing and much of the original silvering, otherwise, As Cast. Both belt attachment lugs (both hammered) in place on the reverse; near black patina, cleaned and waxed.

Description/ Just look at the photo!

Ref/ A&L, SL 14.23 variety

Seller's Note/ This is an extremely large, heavy, beautiful and scarce example of a 4th Century belt mount. So large and fancy, it would never have been on a common Roman soldiers belt. Remember, such mounts were attached vertically, not horizontally. A mount like, especially considering the silvering, this would have adorned the belt of an important legionary centurion, if not an officer!
