Ave!

Septimius Severus, Denarius, Victory Reverse

Silver; 18mm/2.7gm     Rome, struck ca. 200 AD

Con/ Very Fine; complete legends, handsome portrait, excellent image of flying Victory.

Obv/ SEVERVS AVG PART MAX; laureate head right.

Rev/ P M TR P VIII COS II P P; Victory flying left, holding open wreath with both hands, before her, a shield set on low base.

Ref/ RIC Vol IVa 150

Seller's Note/ Victory holds an open wreath meant for both emperors, Septimius and son Caracalla. This all about some very slick propaganda to once again reassure the Romans that the empire in safe in their hands.
