Danube Celts, Æ Tetradrachm, ca 3rd Cent BC, Sharp!

Beginning about 300 BC, the Danubian Celtic tribes began to imitate the images on the coins of Philip and Alexander the Great (Zeus obverse and Horse reverse) but in their own particular style. 

Æ 23mm/8.5gm    "Kugelwange" (Ball cheek) type

Con/ After appropriate cleaning, Good Very Fine; bold struck to either side; glossy dark green patina beneath earthen fill. .

Obv/ Laur. bust of Zeus right. (Celtic-style) ;-)

Rev/ Free horse prancing left.

Seller's Note/ Unlike the faces on most Celtic silver issues, the faces on bronze coins are barely recognizable. On our issue, just below the laurel wreath to the far right, is a very clear eyebrow and eye. Images on Celtic coins are always delightful and this one is a real gem.
