Ave!
Black Powder Pistol Ball Mold, ca. 16th - 17th Cent., Scarce!
Mold; Copper alloy; 31mm/20.9gm -- Ball; Cast lead; 12mm/11.8gm
Con/ Mold; a few nicks and dings, otherwise, As Cast with a pleasant green patina. Lead ball, about what you'd expect.
Seller's Note/ As seen in the photo, this is only 1/2 of a pair that would have been held together by a device similar to a pliers, to keep the mold secure when the molten lead was poured into the top funnel. Once cooled, the pliers were opened and the ball knocked out.
As to who once owned and used this pistol ball mold is moot. It could have been anyone that owned a such a pistol. Lead was cheap and could be melted over even the most common fire. Most likely, the mold was used for the owners personal use.
