Ave!
Celtic, Pendent, Silver, Human Foot! c. 5th-3rd Cent BC
Silver alloy; 27mm/3.4gm
Con/ As Cast and Engraved; and wearable!
Provenance/ Ground-found in a small and forgotten Celtic settlement located south of the Drava river. For attribution, note it as Danubian Celts.
Seller's Note/ As seen in the photo, this pendant was cast as one piece, then the toes were engraved. Not seen in our photo is that the toes are coiled slightly downward.
Who wore it? Most likely a man do to the foot-shape; I asked Sheri, our direct source for all things girly, if she would wear it, and she said, "Never, It belonged to a man." Who am I to disagree? LOL!
But what was the significance of such an oddly made pendant? Was it worn as an amulet of some sort or a good luck talisman? Who knows, as the ancient Celtic people had all their own ideas.
Either way, it is quite rare, and was not a trade item. It was certainly worn nearly 2,500 years ago. Will you be the next to wear it?
