Ave!

Headgear for Cart or Wagon Animals, 1st-3rd Cent, Rare?

Copper alloy; 14CM / 23.3gm.

Con/ Restored, otherwise, As Cast/Fabricated.

Seller's Note/ The first photo is after restoration, The second photo reflects "as arrived." The final photo is from the Vindonissa Catalog.

Our translation from German, as best I can make out for those displayed pieces referenced is:

"Bent iron bars from the headgear of cart animals?"

Notice how in their description of those specific pieces, they are not sure what they are by their ending placement with a question mark. Yikes!

Also of notie, is that their examples have (attachment?) rings to either end, while our example has onion-shaped finials and is copper alloy, rather than iron.

We have no idea as to how this artifact was used!
