Ave!
Romano/Germanic Cavalry Prick Spur, c. 4th-5th Cent AD
Copper alloy; 67mm/6.7gm
Con/ Minor plow damage, otherwise, As Cast and Engraved. Sound with an excellent green patina.
Seller's Note/ Rivets at each end were used fasten the spur to the cavalryman's leather boot but, unlike 2nd Century spurs, this later type has no hook for a strap or lace which went around the boot and served to keep the spur from flopping down. As many late Roman cavalrymen were Germanic tribesmen, this spur show such influences, no doubt at all.
