Ave!

Vespasian, Denarius, "Judaea Capta" Commemorative IssueI

AR; 19mm/3.2gm     Rome mint, struck AD 75.

Con/ Well centered to either side with a curious golden patina. The reverse struck with a worn die (?), otherwise, Very Fine.

Obv/ IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG; Laureate head right.

Rev/ PON MAX TR P COS VI; Victory standing left on prow, holding wreath and palm frond

Ref/ RIC Vol II, 93

Seller's Note/ A remarkably odd coin, for sure, and we have never seen anything like it. As seen in the photo with the breaks on the surface with silver showing beneath, it may have been gold plated as a special presentation piece? If so, it is very rare. Who knows!
