Ave!

Bronze Age, Spear Point, Socketed, Urnfield Culture c. 1000-800 BC

Copper alloy; 16 CM/107gm = big and heavy!

Con/ Some corrosion and chips about the edges, otherwise, As Cast. Dark brown patina; cleaned NOT waxed.

Description/ A leaf-shaped spear point with a large central boss with holes to keep the point firmly in place in the wooden shaft.

Seller's Note/ From a small hoard of axes, sword hilts and spear points found near a Celtic settlement near the Danube River. Such hoards were often deposited close to rivers and wet places like swamps. As these spots were often quite inaccessible, they most probably represent gifts to the gods. In most cases, such were preserved due to the lack of oxygen in the mud which inhibits corrosion. Sadly, the area where this particular spear point was ground-found had dried out and was available to farmer plowing. Sheesh!

None the less, this is still a very rare and beautiful artifact for collectors of ancient weapons!
