Ave!

Trajan, Denarius, Genius reverse, Mule?

AR; 19mm/2.8gm   Mint of Rome, ca 115-116 AD

Con/ Well centered with complete obverse legends; soft strike on the reverse, otherwise, Very fine.

Obv/ IMP CAES NER TRAIANO OPTIMO AVG GER DAC, laureate and bare chested bust right. ♦

Rev/ PM TRP COS VI PP SPQR, Genius standing left, holding patera and wheat ears.

Ref/ RIC Vol II, 347 (or is it?)

Seller's Note/ RIC does not list this issue as noted above.♦ Similar issues with the same reverse feature portraits with drapery or an aegis on the emperor's shoulder. However, RIC 180 does list a laureate bust right with a different reverse legend, but also with the same "Genius standing left, holding patera and wheat ears."

So, this denarius is either a mule or, most likely, unlisted in RIC. Take your pick!
