Ave!
Strap End, Amphora, Multiple Engravings, c. 4th Cent
Copper alloy; 40mm/2.6gm
Con/ As Fabricated & Engraved; a select example with both (clearly peened) attachment rivets, a magnificent dark green glossy patina; engraved circle-and-dots and zigzag patterns about and centered above.
Ref/ A&L SL 13 var.
Seller's Note/ The circle-and-dots were most likely easy to engrave with pre-made tools, right? But it makes us wonder why the fabricator took the further, and certainly more time consuming effort, to engrave the zigzag patterns on such a common strap end? A custom made one-off, perhaps?
