Ave!
Bracelet, Balkans/Eastern Europe, 16th - 17th Cent AD, Magnificent!
Copper alloy; 60mm x 19mm / 24.6gm!
Con/ As Fabricated; untouched dark brown with stunning bronze high-lights. Wearable...no worries!
Description/ The metal band was cast and then embedded face-down into a yielding bed —traditionally a bowl of warm pitch, lead, or a sandbag—which acts as a "liquid anvil" to support the metal while allowing it to stretch outward when struck with specialized hammers and punches. After which, the artist flipped the bracelet and began the embossing on the front side using blunt punches to sink the background, sharpen lines, or add fine texture. Whew!
Seller's Note/ Last thought for wearing this bracelet - After 2000 years or more, copper alloy becomes brittle and may break under stress. But, as seen in the last photo, Sheri is featured modeling the bracelet without any harm whatsoever. Nice!
