Not long ago we were sent a lovely silvered antoninianus for restoration. The problem was that although the silvering was firm and fully intact, it had a few tiny but very serious eruptions of Bronze Disease on both sides.
A full soak in BD Killer would have cured the coin, but the silvering would have come off due to the chemicals involved. I figured that the only way to remove the tiny pockets of BD was to apply minute amounts of BDK to the problematic areas without any added liquid to rest of the coin's surface. Even a Q-tip would have been too much. I was stymied...until Sheri came to my rescue.
Another of Sheri's hobbies (besides her infamous 'vacation account' and awesome underwater photography) is Gourd Art. Who knew?
One day as I was fussing over the aforementioned coin, she asked me what I was doing. I explained the problem...and she handed me a microbrush. Voila! Problem was solved and the coin was cured...although it was a very slow process. :-(
This microbrush works great for BD and for applying JAX solutions to small areas in need of re-patination.
I'm sold on these microbrishes. They work for me and they'll work for you!
