Excellent resource, probably the best book on the subject. This book has helped me to become more familiar with and identify Roman military items. I use this book in conjunction with the UK Finds Database-http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/ when it comes to domestic/non-military finds. I wish there were a similar book for non-military material culture. My only complaint about this volume are the handful of oddly edited/ blurry/ pixelated photos which are encountered in the first half of the book. In my opinion the editors should have rejected these photos. Fortunately the majority of the photos are clear and excellent. This is a resource that I highly recommend, especially since NRC now has an assortment of "reliquae excercitus Romanorum" available.

I just received this for Christmas, I have needed it since the shop has been carrying so many military artifacts the past couple years. I have had several items for a long time I was clueless about. It is helping me get familiar with the basics. It's easy to read and undestand. The pictures are excellent quality and the descriptions are informative. I am very inexperienced in dealing with iron artifacts. Some of the pictures will even be a good guideline for me to know when to stop cleaning rusty items. Definitely worth the investment, I will be adding to my humble collection.
