A very interesting item, indeed! The phallus charm was a charm or token of the god Fascinus, one of the very earliest Roman deities, a type of fertility and hearth power, as well as protection from the "evil eye." . Originally, the phallus had little wings which gradually were discarded over the centuries. The Vestal Virgins tended the cult of Fascinus and the token was one of the symbols of the safety of the state placed under the chariot of victorious generals during their triumphal parades. The word "fascinus" also is the basis for our word "fascination." Kinda cool, isn't it?
