Ave!

Helmet, Carry Handle, c. 1st Cent. AD, Rare!

Copper alloy; 95mm/34gm

Con/ As Cast and Fabricated; dark brown patina, cleaned and waxed.

Ref/ A&L AA 4.7 var.

Seller's Note/ This 1st Century swan-necked style carry handle would have been attached to the neck guard of the soldier's helmet via the pair of cotter pins seen in the photo (yes, the Romans invented cotter pins!) and then hung from their chest, not on their back.

Ground-found in the Balkans near a military fort, this helmet carry handle was apparently never attached to a helmet as the cotter pins are still closed. Wow!
