Ave!

Harness, Strap End, c. Mid-Late 1st Cent, Rare!

Copper alloy; 49mm/7.5gm

Con/ about As Cast and Fabricated; lovely dark green patina; cleaned, not waxed.

Description/ If you look close at the photo, you will find that this strap end was constructed from five parts and then assembled into one. The back piece and the two domed parts were cast first. A pair of rivets were then soldered into holes in the back piece. Once done, the two domes were not soldered, but rather glued, above the two rivets. Also seen in the photo, the end of the leather strap was pressed down against the small hook on the reverse and finally peened onto the rivets. WOW!

Ref/ Note found in any common resources but we finally found a clear reference in the Vindonissa Catalog, # 1783!

Seller's Note/ Extremely rare in such sublime condition, trust me, kids.
