Ave!
Pannonian Anchor Fibula, Silver, c.100-175 AD, Unique
Silver; 11CM / 57.8gm (!)
Con/ Intact, not as cast;
Very Rare with the Celtic/Romano styled face
Seller's Note/ As seen in the photos, this anchor fibula is not in the best condition. Contrary as it may seem to be plow bent, it is not. Rather, it was half melted in an intense fire during a cremation ceremony, put in a wooden box or earthen jar along with the ashes, and buried with all the blessings of the Roman gods and mourners crying.
As to who wore this brooch is moot; we only surmise it was a man with wealth and status, do to the high expense of such a silver brooch.
This is a Roman burial artifact that should be regarded with remembrance and dignity.
